Some ANC supporters attending the party’s birthday rally want party president Cyril Ramaphosa to outline how the organisation plans to regain lost ground in the upcoming municipal elections.

The ANC has been preparing for the local government elections, expected to take place between November this year and January next year.

In the last two municipal elections, the ANC suffered significant losses, losing its majorities in several municipalities.

The party is currently holding its 114th birthday rally at the Moruleng stadium, just outside Rustenburg in the North West.

The ANC's electoral support has been declining since the 1994 election, a trend that has become more apparent in recent years as the party lost majorities in several municipalities.

This decline was further highlighted during the 2024 national and provincial elections, when the party lost its national majority and had to form a Government of National Unity.

ANC supporters say they expect party president Ramaphosa to provide a detailed account of how the party plans to win the local government elections.

"The president must see that we are still serious about the anc. The party is still alive, and it will never fall. We still love it."

The ANC, however, maintains that it still believes it can regain lost support.
