SA’s top matriculants say despite some challenges, they managed to achieve their goals

South Africa’s top matric achievers said that despite some challenges, they managed to achieve their goals.
Many who gathered in Johannesburg on Monday at the top achievers breakfast told EWN that they are interested in studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics or Accounting.

Sesona Masingili, from Soqhayisa Senior Secondary School in the Eastern Cape, said load shedding often impacted his workflow.
This, he said, forced him to manage his time better.
“I would get interfered in a sense of if I wanted to do something like late at night, but I can’t do it because there's no electricity and unfortunately, I don’t have those battery lights or paraffin lamps, so I would just sleep when there are no lights.”
Mpumalanga pupil Sanele Vilakazi said that staying in an informal settlement did not deter him; instead, he said, it motivated him to work hard.
“I am staying at a new settlement, in Phola, there is no water and electricity and balancing your social life and school is tough.”
Vilakazi said that he wants to study data engineering at Stellenbosch University.
