The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued an orange level 9 warning for disruptive rain in Limpopo and Mpumalanga on Monday.

This is up from Sunday’s level 6 warning.

Both provinces have been battered by heavy rains for several days due to tropical moisture.

Widespread flooding and damage to infrastructure are again expected on Monday.

Spokesperson for the South African National Parks (SANParks) JP Louw said the inclement weather led to the evacuation of some camp sites to less affected parts of the Kruger National Park.

“SANParks strongly urges all guests and staff to adhere strictly to no-entry and road closure signage, avoid driving through flooded roads or low-lying bridges and refrain from removing logs, debris, or barriers placed on roads.

“The safety of visitors, staff, and surrounding communities remains SANParks’s highest priority. The South African Weather Service will continue to closely monitor the situation.”

Meanwhile, the SAWS has issued an advisory for very hot to extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions for the Western Cape and Northern Cape.

Temperatures there are expected to peak at low 40s.
