The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced the next 11 mayoral candidates who will contest the upcoming local government elections in the Western Cape.
It includes key municipalities in the province, including Bitou, Drakenstein, George and Stellenbosch.
On Tuesday, DA leader and Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said he expected the candidates to demonstrate that they are a cut above the rest and to prove that the DA governs for all.

Hill-Lewis said the DA does not shy away from naming its mayoral candidates ahead of elections because it expects them to be well-acquainted with the communities they are vying to serve.
"We are not a party run on patronage. We are not a party whatever today’s wishes are of the leader that just tweets it out or puts it on Facebook. We are a party of proper institutions that deliver better governance over time."
He said as someone still going through the process to be the DA’s mayoral candidate for Cape Town for a second term, he understands how rigorous the process is.
"I’m also personally going through that same process, so I know exactly what you are going through, and that process is still ongoing. But I know how fair and rigorous the DA’s processes are."
The DA has now announced 26 of its 30 mayoral candidates in the province.
