The Basic Education Ministry has admitted that there is a delay in the delivery of stationery to some schools in KwaZulu-Natal but said that this will be addressed in a few days.
Deputy Basic Education Minister Reginah Mhaule, visited the Queensburg and Bonela Secondary Schools in Durban on Wednesday.
This is as schools across the country kickstart the 2026 academic calendar.
While teachers' union SADTU expressed concerns about the complaints that stationery has not been delivered to several schools in the province, the Basic Education Department said that it is aware of the challenges.
Mhaule said, “The promises we get are that by the end of next week, all schools will have their stationery.”
Meanwhile, SADTU said that it wants all schools to be given all their basic needs urgently.
It said that if the department fails to do so, it will approach the courts.
