As mop-up operations continue across the Kouga Municipality following recent wildfires, fire crews who battled multiple blazes last week have been praised for their bravery.

Several uncontrolled fires broke out in Humansdorp, Jeffrey's Bay, St Francis Bay, and the Kabeljauws River areas last week.

Residents of Zwartenbosch along the R330 road were forced to evacuate due to intense blazes.

However, most of these fires have been largely contained or extinguished, with mopping-up operations in full swing.

The DA's Vicky Knoetze said that firefighters, volunteers, and municipal officials should be commended for confronting the fires head-on under dangerous conditions.

"This united society response showed the strength of Kouga in crisis, and the dedication of all those involved will be remembered with deep appreciation."
