President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to visit Limpopo on Thursday following days of heavy flooding that have left communities cut off and caused extensive damage to vital infrastructure.
Schools and clinics in two of the province’s hardest-hit districts have been closed, with harsh weather conditions expected to persist into next week.
The President is expected to be briefed by provincial and disaster management officials as damage assessments continue across several areas, including Vhembe and Mopani.
Four days of relentless rain have disrupted daily life, leaving communities struggling to access clinics, transport routes, and basic services.
Today’s visit follows calls for national intervention after the provincial government admitted its resources have been stretched by the scale of the flooding.
Provincial COGTA MEC Basikopo Makamu: “The state of readiness to assist community members is there. We may not have enough resources, but I can say we are prepared to be.”
Officials said the President’s engagement is expected to focus on relief, recovery and coordination, as the province remains on high alert with more rain possible.
