Day visits to the Kruger National Park have been suspended due to heavy rain in Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

SAN Parks said the decision comes after day visitors were unable to exit the park following the flooding of a bridge at Crocodile Bridge Gate.

It said its resources will be directed to respond to emergencies.

SAN Parks has issued a precautionary evacuation order to remove all visitors from flood-affected areas in the Kruger National Park.

All the camps inside the park have also been closed due to the inclement weather.

Precautionary measures have since been intensified to prevent day visitors from entering the park.

SAN Parks spokesperson JP Louw said the safety of staff and visitors remains its main priority.

“Please also note that Phalaborwa Gate will close for at least 24 hours as we monitor the situation closely. This means at the moment there is no access to the Park from the Northern parts of Kruger National Park."

Louw added that the decision to close the park will continually be reviewed as road and weather conditions change.
