City Power has embarked on an emergency disconnection operation to several businesses in Nancefield, south of Johannesburg, that are non-compliant.
The operation is being carried out by the Lenasia Service Delivery Centre and Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers.
So far, nine businesses have been identified to be repeat offenders and will on Friday have their power cut off.
Friday’s operation forms part of the City of Johannesburg's drive to clamp down on illegal electricity connections.
The power utility said earlier this week, they visited some of the businesses in the area and were met with hostile owners, who called their private security and chased technicians away.
City Power said the owners have made claims that a community leader instructed them not to pay and instead reconnect their power supply when disconnected.
Friday its teams are joined by law enforcement officers, and it’s warned that any resistance by the owners may result in arrest.
