Gmail is receiving a significant upgrade as Google introduces what it calls the 'Gemini era'.

With around three billion users and crowded inboxes, Google says it aims to help people manage their email more easily.

The new tools will make Gmail a more active assistant that can summarise, prioritise, and help write emails.

One major new feature is AI Overviews, which quickly summarises long email threads or answers questions in simple language.

Instead of searching through old emails, users can ask their inbox about past quotes or decisions from group conversations and get clear answers in seconds.

Conversation summaries will be available for all users for free, while asking specific questions will be for Google’s paid AI subscribers.

Google is also improving its writing and organisation tools.

Help Me Write and smarter Suggested Replies can draft or refine emails in your own style, while a new AI Inbox will highlight important messages, deadlines, and key contacts.

According to Google, these updates seek to save time, reduce inbox clutter, and make email feel less like a chore and more like a helpful tool.
