Mpumalanga floods: Officials conduct oversight visits in affected areas

As mop-up operations continue in parts of Mpumalanga following inclement weather which has caused disruptions, officials are conducting oversight visits in affected areas.
MECs for cooperative governance and human settlements, as well as for public works, roads and transport are visiting the Msholozi village where a low-lying bridge was destroyed.
During the week, a 45-year-old female was swept away at the bridge and was found 5 kilometres downstream.

MEC for Human Settlements, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Speed Mashilo said it's been a difficult rainy season.
“We had damage since November 16, 2025, that is when the storm started in the province and now gradually it has increased with the recent one in January, where eventually we had lot of rain. As we speak, currently majority of our infrastructure is damaged that is why we are here, a number of houses are affected.”
Meanwhile, Public Works, Roads and Transport MEC Thulasizwe Thomo said they are still collating the figures of the roads damaged.
“I may not be able to provide probably the exact number as it relates to bridges that have been damaged, but it is quite a number and roads,” Thomo said.
