Rain expected to hamper Mpumalanga floods mop-up operations

Persistent rainfall is expected to hamper mop-up operations in parts of Mpumalanga on Monday as inclement weather continues.
The province is currently trying to recover from last week’s devastating floods, which caused widespread destruction to property and claimed at least 20 lives.
While the rains were expected to taper down, parts of the province were expected to remain wet.

More than 1,000 homes have been damaged in various parts of Mpumalanga.
Road infrastructure has also been largely impacted, with some key routes affected.
Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu said talks were underway to find the best solutions.
"We met as government and we decided that we are going to come up with interim measures to ensure that the roads and the bridges that have been washed away will be fixed temporarily so that we will have access to facilities," he said.
Ndlovu has called for schools in affected areas to remain closed to keep pupils safe.
