Stadium Management South Africa has introduced a new ticketing system, My Ticket, to improve match-day experiences for fans.

Managing director Bertie Grobler says the app is safer, faster, enhances access control, and curbs ticket fraud.

By moving ticket operations in-house, it aims to put the power back in the hands of supporters.

“There were always issues, and if you are reliant on a third party, you need to answer on behalf of the third party. We have learned a lot of lessons,” he says.

Stadium Management SA has faced criticism following several ticket mishaps for football games at the FNB Stadium.

A year ago, a Soweto Derby match descended into chaos after it was identified that well over the anticipated 90,000 fans attended the game due to counterfeit tickets.

Grobler explains that the new system uses rotating QR codes to combat ticket cloning and unauthorised sharing, making it easier to identify fake tickets.

The fixed scanning devices at the turnstiles have also been updated and automated, allowing ticket holder to scan their own tickets to gain access.

The app’s wallet integration and offline access also ensure that fans can still access their tickets even when network coverage drops.

Fans will still be able to purchase printed tickets, should they need to.

“We have a distribution agreement with Computicket where outlets will still sell you a hard copy ticket.”
