Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero said he is unfazed by the latest attempts to remove him from office.

The most recent motion of no confidence was filed by the United Democratic Movement (UDM) and Al Jama-ah, both members of the African National Congress (ANC)-led coalition.

The parties accuse Morero of poor service delivery and failing to consult coalition partners on key decisions.

In December, they submitted a similar motion but withdrew it just before the council could vote.

Morero recently appointed Al Jama-ah’s Thapelo Amad as MMC for community development.

Despite this, the party is continuing with its motion of no confidence against Morero, even though they’re part of what they call the “government of local unity.”

Morero said that the decision to include Amad in his mayoral committee was made collectively with the ANC’s new leadership in Johannesburg, and not by him alone.

“The decision to appoint him was made between the leadership of the ANC and the minority parties group, which resolved on his appointment. Once decisions are made politically, they are then communicated to the deployee of the ANC.”

The past few months have been challenging for Morero, with his festive season overshadowed by political setbacks.

In early December, he faced a failed motion of no confidence and later lost the bid to retain his position as the ANC’s leader in Johannesburg.
