The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has secured an order to interdict the pension of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) National Lotteries Commission official Sibonelo Vilakazi.

Vilakazi, who was a client liaison officer in that province, was found to have exploited his position to enable his wife to receive over R31 million in grants from the NLC.

The investigation is part of the SIU crackdown on corruption at the NLC.

Investigations revealed that the funds which were funnelled through Zuma’s company, ZZET

Enterprises, were used to buy luxury vehicles and properties.

The SIU’s spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, explained: “SIU investigations show that more than 400 care centres and football clubs made payments to accounts linked to Vilakazi and Zuma from money received from the NLC between 2019 and 2023.”

In addition to Vilakazi’s half a million-rand pension being interdicted, the SIU previously obtained an order to freeze approximately R2.4 million held in four bank accounts linked to Vilakazi and Zuma.
