TMPD steadfast about ensuring safety in scholar transport system

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) has moved to reassure parents and communities following a road safety operation targeting scholar transport in Akasia on Friday.
The operation, carried out by the Public Transport and Taxi Unit, led to the impoundment of 30 learner transport vehicles that failed to comply with safety and legal requirements.
TMPD spokesperson Puleng Motholo said offences included unroadworthy vehicles, expired or missing operating licences, and insufficient driver documentation.

“During the operations, a total of 142 heavy motor vehicles were weighed and inspected… Amongst those, 92 overloaded trucks were found to be exceeding their legal weight limits.”
Motholo added that the enforcement drive forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance and prevent learner safety from being compromised by negligent operators.
“The TMPD will continue to maintain a high visibility presence and conduct regular operations. We remain steadfast in our mission to restore order on the roads of Tsoni and ensure that all motorists adhere to the law.”
