Police have launched a manhunt following a deadly shooting that left three dead in the Samora Machel informal settlement in Phillipi, Cape Town.

It’s alleged the victims, aged between 16 and 21, were seated in a vehicle on Oliver Tambo Drive when unknown gunmen opened fire shortly before midday on Saturday.

Three victims were declared dead at the scene, while a fourth was transported to hospital for urgent medical care.

Police spokesperson André Traut has condemned the attack and confirmed that police deployments in the area have been increased, with more visibility and patrols.

"The South African Police Service [SAPS) strongly condemns the violent shooting incident that claimed the lives of three young people in Samora Machel, and SAPS remains committed to bringing those responsible to justice."
