The Gauteng Department of Transport is set to conduct another scholar transport inspection on Monday, this time in Ekurhuleni.

Transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela will lead the operation in Katlehong with the National Traffic Police.

This comes after a scholar transport operator collided with a truck in Vanderbijlpark last week. Fourteen children were killed in the incident.

Transport authorities have revealed that the driver of the scholar transport vehicle involved in the fatal crash last week had no valid permit to transport children.

Since the start of the academic year, the provincial government has committed to doubling down on its efforts to ensure that scholar transporters are compliant and have all the necessary operating licenses before going out on the road. Parents are also urged to vet the drivers and the vehicles that are transporting their children.

The provincial transport department has taken its campaign to tighten the rules and regulations for transporting scholars to Ekurhuleni today.
