The death toll from the Limpopo floods has risen to 25, while three people remain missing following weeks of persistent inclement weather.

The fatalities are linked to the severe storms that have battered the province since last month. The provincial Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) confirmed that search and rescue operations are still underway across affected areas.

Limpopo CoGHSTA MEC Basikopo Makamu has issued an urgent plea to residents to stay clear of dangerous rivers and dams to prevent further loss of life.

The MEC’s spokesperson, Amos Phago, emphasised the need for community cooperation during this period:

"MEC Makamu has extended his condolences to the bereaved families and reiterated his call on communities to remain vigilant by adhering to the safety tips that have been issued by the government. This includes refraining from risky behaviour such as crossing flooded rivers and streams or even swimming."
