The high-profile trial of alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack and 14 others was on Monday postponed again due to one of the defence attorneys being ill.

Modack was due back in the witness-box on Monday after making a brief appearance a week ago.

He faced 122 charges and was on trial with 14 others for various crimes related to allegedly operating a criminal enterprise.

Nafiz Modack's lawyer, advocate Bashier Sibda, was due to re-examine his client on Monday after the State closed its case against the alleged underworld gang boss in November last year.

However, the matter was postponed for a second time after the court heard that defence attorney, advocate Pauline Andrews, was ill and being treated in hospital.

Presiding judge Robert Henney postponed proceedings as Andrews' client, Amaal Jantjies, was linked to some of the charges Modack faced.

The court said Andrews needed to be present to defend Jantjies in case anything incriminating was said during Modack's re-examination.

The matter will be back in court on 13 February.
