Ramaphosa hails SA's consecutive economic growth as step in the right direction

President Cyril Ramaphosa said the country’s economy has posted four consecutive quarters of growth, signs that the government's economic recovery is gathering pace.
Writing in his latest newsletter on Monday, President Ramaphosa said that in the last few months of 2025, the country witnessed a number of indicators that show efforts to rebuild the economy are bearing fruit.
He also noted how confidence in the country’s economy is rising.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has continued his focus on the economy in his newsletter, and how the latest numbers show a steady recovery.
He said there had been a steady reduction in unemployment, “while recent data released by Statistics South Africa shows that levels of poverty and inequality have declined considerably”.

He said confidence in the economy was rising, with a better-performing stock exchange and the average inflation rate at its lowest point in two decades.
With the end of load shedding, he said the electricity reforms had been critical in the economic recovery efforts.
Ramaphosa also noted how late last year, South Africa exited the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, which is an important signal of institutional improvement and a boost to investor confidence.
He said in the coming days, Cabinet will hold its annual Lekgotla to outline the actions that will be taken across government, along with social partners, to achieve job creation and grow investment.
