Insiders have stated that the raid of the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA)'s offices was intended to gather information on allegedly irregular contracts.

The CEO of the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), Themba Mathibe, is understood to have been arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of a substantial sum of cash. 

The senior city official was taken into custody on Monday, said insiders.

According to insiders, the arrest follows a raid by law enforcement authorities at the city’s social housing offices. The operation was conducted to investigate allegations of irregularities in certain contracts.

While several sources have confirmed Mathibe’s arrest, law enforcement authorities are yet to comment.

Mathibe has served as the JDA CEO for the past two years, but was recently seconded to lead the Johannesburg social housing company. Beyond his administrative roles, Mathibe is also a former member of the African National Congress (ANC) Youth League’s national executive committee.
