The Department of Tourism has projected that the new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system will create between 80,000 and 100,000 jobs.

The ETA system was piloted during the country’s G20 Summit last year. It enables travellers to apply online, captures biometrics, and gives real-time approvals, significantly shortening processing times.

On Tuesday, Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille announced that in 2025, the country hit a record 10.48 million international arrivals. The minister has described the system as transformative for travel into the country.

"But ease of access also means air connectivity and here the needle is also shifting," Minister De Lille stated.

"We are implementing the Cabinet-approved Route Development Marketing Strategy. We welcomed several new flights the past year, past two years."
