African National Congress (ANC) fixer and alleged Crime Intelligence asset Brown Mogotsi refuses to appear before Parliament’s police ad hoc committee probing police corruption, until his security demands are met.

Mogotsi has made several security demands that have been rejected by the committee, including his own private security to be paid for by Parliament for a week.

The committee discussed the matter before it continued its public submissions from members of the public.

Committee secretary Vhonani Ramaano detailed Mogotsi’s demands: "The offer that was given is that he can come to Cape Town, and as soon as he lands, there will be escorts. Mr mogotsi refused that offer, he says that he doesn't want to be protected by people he doesn't know. He prefers to have his own people protecting him, and he was requesting that parliament fund this for a period of seven days."

The committee has now resolved to subpoena Mogotsi to force him to appear, calling his list of demands “ridiculous”.

Mogotsi was supposed to appear and testify on Friday, but he has refused to accept the current arrangement by Parliament.

Ramaano said Mogotsi wants Parliament to foot the bill for his private security.

But chairperson Soviet Lekganyane dismissed Mogotsi’s demands.

"As it stands, like you inquired yesterday, as of now it is uncertain whether Mr Mogotsi will be here tomorrow, given the ridiculous demands that he is making to parliament that he has his own private security."

Mogotsi will only be subpoenaed once the speaker gives her approval, a decision expected to happen over the next few days.
