The wife of slain top cop Charl Kinnear says the arrest and prosecution of 11 anti-gang unit members for alleged murder has impacted their peers' ability to fight gang violence.
Eleven members of the elite policing unit were arrested in December after Manenberg resident Wade Price died while being interrogated in custody.
Price allegedly complained of an earache before collapsing.
An IPID investigation later determined he died of unnatural causes.
Nicolette Kinnear, the wife of slain anti-gang unit commander Charl Kinnear, was at Athlone magistrates' court on Thursday to support the 11 AGU members charged with murder after Manenberg resident Wade Price died on their watch.
Kinnear says she joined the so-called "Agu 11" supporters to protest the court's decision to deny 10 of the accused bail.
"I mean, this very court has granted murderers, gangsters found in possession of ammunition, and given them bail, and we just feel that the justice system in that regard has failed."
Kinnear says the case has left other AGU members anxious to do their jobs.
"They feel their hands are tied. They go into areas where there's gang fighting, and they are left with being shouted at: 'you can't touch us, or else you will also be arrested'."
The matter was postponed to 5 March for further investigation.
