Eleven Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) members are back in the Athlone Magistrates Court on a charge of murder.

Manenberg resident Wade Price was arrested in December and died after allegedly being suffocated during police interrogation.

Outside the court, law enforcement had to use crime scene tape to separate protesters who came to support the AGU accused from those who gathered with the victim's family.

Inside the court, the 11 AGU members accused of murdering Price appeared under the heavy guard of members from the same unit.

The 11 accused face charges of murder, kidnapping, assault, torture, and defeating the ends of justice.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said the State's investigation is ongoing.

"We have received the post-mortem report, but we still have a DNA report that's outstanding as well as the crime scene reports that are still outstanding."

The matter was postponed to 5 March 2025 for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the defence is expected to attend a bail appeal hearing at the Western Cape High Court on Friday.
