The African National Congress (ANC) has successfully persuaded the Al Jama-ah party to withdraw its motion of no confidence against Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero.
Despite being a member of the ANC-led coalition, Al Jama-ah had sponsored the latest bid to oust Morero from office.

The party cited a failure to improve service delivery and a lack of consultation with coalition partners on key governance issues as the primary drivers for the motion.
The political crisis was averted during an emergency meeting on Thursday, where coalition members reached an agreement to retract the motion.
ANC Regional Secretary Sasabona Manganye confirmed that Morero has survived the challenge, emphasising that internal disputes must be handled through official channels rather than public votes of no confidence.
"As partners, we can't raise grievances through motions of no confidence," Manganye stated. "Platforms to raise whatever grievance they have about the executive mayor will be created, but a motion of no confidence is not an option."
As part of the resolution to stabilise the coalition, the Council has opted to create a brand-new position: Deputy Mayor. This move is seen as a strategic step to improve representation and communication among the various partners within the city's leadership.
