Proteas captain Themba Bavuma has received the City of Cape Town's prestigious Civic Honours scroll.
The award recognises individuals who've made a significant contribution to their communities and celebrates Bavuma's impact both on and off the cricket pitch.
Bavuma was originally scheduled to receive the honour in November last year, but was unable to attend the ceremony at the time due to national team touring commitments.
Themba Bavuma was born and raised in the KwaLanga.
He remembers fondly the role the community played in shaping his cricket journey to the highest level of the sport.
The Protea skipper accepted the City's Civic Honours scroll on Friday.
He described it as a proud moment both for himself and his family.
"I think my career has been an interesting one, starting from Langa when cricket was just a passion and never in my wildest of dreams did I think that passion would get me sitting where I am now and being honoured and recognised in this manner."
Bavuma thanked the city for the recognition, describing the moment as deeply meaningful.
