Gauteng Finance MEC Lebogang Maile said he’s confident the provincial budget will pass next month, despite the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) vowing not to vote for it.

The EFF has also pledged to support motions of no confidence against African National Congress (ANC) mayors.

Providing an update on the province’s finances for the first half of the 2025/26 financial year, Maile said he wants the buy in of the majority of parties at the legislature.

“We will continue to engage, including with the EFF, you will know that they have reasons why they have taken that posture and one of the reasons is what has happened in Ekurhuleni between them and the ANC.

“They have a right to participate and not participate in any process, so it’s their discretion. We respect it but we will continue to engage with everyone because we definitely want a budget that is supported by the majority.”
