ROME, ITALY - Italian biathlete Rebecca Passler has failed a doping test ahead of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, the Italian anti-doping agency said on Monday.

Passler, 24, has been "provisionally suspended" after her sample showed the presence of letrozole, a prohibited substance used to treat breast cancer, the agency (NADO Italia) said in a statement.

According to reports in Italy, the test was carried out outside of competition.

Passler currently stands 33rd in the overall World Cup standings.

The Milan-Cortina Games open on Friday.
