Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation David Mahlobo says water supply is gradually being restored to parts of Midrand after improvements in reservoirs.

The Minister and Johannesburg mayor Dada Morero gave an update on the water supply in the suburb after days without water.

Mahlobo says that at the peak of the disruption, pumping water was not possible, leaving reservoirs critically low.

Emergency repairs and technical challenges caused the water disruption.

A power outage at the Zuikerbosch treatment plant exacerbated the crisis.

Mahlobo says a phased restoration is currently underway.

"At the current point where we are we should be able to have a number of areas to get water especially in the four areas that comrade mayor has referred to but the area of grand central remains our biggest concern and we've directed the teams of rand water, joburg city and ekurhuleni to work together so we can begin to recalibrate because the systems are interconnected."
