New York City Mayor Zohran Mandani inadvertently delivered some dating app propaganda during his campaign when he revealed that he'd met wife Rama Duwaji on Hinge, but not everyone is that lucky.

Swiping fatigue is rising according to a Forbes Health survey - it found that 78% of users "feel emotionally exhausted due to ghosting, dishonesty and lack of meaningful connections".

But how long do the lovelorn endure before giving up on dating apps altogether?

As tech expert Siphumelele Zondi points out, any social media platform is designed for us to keep on swiping.

And in the case of dating apps, there are a proliferation of platforms to choose from where you can try, or keep trying your luck.

For a long time many of these platforms were measuring their success by the number of people staying on the app, Zondi says, but is this still valid?

"Success is measured in different ways, but it seems like people are going back less and less and these apps are worrying whether they are in fact still as successful as they used to be. Remember, when they started it was millennials looking for someone to spend the rest of their lives with, and today's younger demographic is different."
