The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has been ordered to return seized super cars believed to belong to corruption-accused businessman Hangwani Maumela.
In September last year the SIU obtained a preservation order to seize six super cars from the Omar dealership in Witbank linked to the businessman.
The SIU collected those vehicles from the dealership after the raid at his Sandton home, where three Lamborghinis were seized in October.
Now the tribunal has ordered that the SIU should return three Aston Martin vehicles, one Rolls Royce and two Ferraris.
But it also ordered the Omar dealership to put up security to the value equivalent of each vehicle, pending the outcome of a court case where the SIU is challenging the lawfulness of a Tembisa hospital tender awarded to Maumela.
Spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said, "We are alleging as the SIU that the dealership is being used as a proxy for these people because when we were following the money we saw the money going into the garage from these people that are involved in the syndicates at the Tembisa Hospital and then we were able to even identify what that money was to buy in terms of the cars.
