Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane says striking bus operators contracted to the department have received a portion of their outstanding payments and will be paid in full by the end of this week.
The development comes as the department has reached an agreement with the bus operators, who have been on strike for two weeks over non-payment.
Chiloane has acknowledged that the department owed the operators for November and December 2025.
Speaking to journalists this afternoon, the MEC says payment for December has been made, with the last payment due by the end of this week.
The strike has affected thousands of learners who were left stranded because of the payment backlog.
Services are expected to resume by Monday.
