At the Cape Town International Aiport, work on the domestic arrivals area is set to begin in March and will continue through to 2029.

Plans also include a new runway, expanded international terminals, and upgraded security systems.

Nearly 11.7 million passengers passed through the airport between late October and the end of January, underlining its importance to tourism and the provincial economy.

ACSA has acknowledged that construction will cause some disruption.

DA Member of the Provincial Parliament Noko Masipa said while the party welcomes the investment, it's worried about possible disruptions during construction.

“We will be inviting ACSA to brief the standing committee so that we can ensure clear planning, transparent timelines and effective mitigation measures are in place.”

Masipa said transparency and careful planning will be critical to ensure the upgrades do not negatively affect travellers or the Western Cape economy.
