The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture says it has established a team to closely monitor how national federations spend their funds.
This follows concerns raised in Parliament about why funding should continue to be allocated to federations that do not use the money for its intended development purposes.
The department briefed Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture on Tuesday, outlining the current state of national federations and highlighting key challenges in financial support provided to athletes.

Officials say federations that fail to comply with funding conditions will not be considered for future allocations.
Recent reports and parliamentary discussions have pointed to serious challenges, including alleged misallocation of funds, poor governance, and failure to support athlete development as required.
The department's deputy director general, Vincent Campbell, says stricter oversight measures are now in place to ensure accountability and proper use of public funds...
"It's also a requirement in terms of our own regulations that we close off a particular financial year having received all the reports, all the compliance matter,s before we consider you for the subsequent year. So we've got a team in place that monitors that particular aspect."
