YouTube goes down across the world

Popular video streaming platform YouTube suffered a worldwide outage in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

There was a huge spike in reports on Downdetector between 2.30 am and 4.30 am, with millions of users reporting outages worldwide.

Users reported that the platform’s homepage appeared blank, with no videos loading on the app, YouTube Music, or YouTube Kids. 

YouTube confirmed the outage on X, noting an issue with its recommendations system.  

“An issue with our recommendations system prevented videos from appearing across surfaces on YouTube. The homepage is back, but we’re still working on a full fix.”

The platform confirmed that the issue was resolved within three hours, and full functionality was restored.
