Part of the N2 inbound near New Way in Khayelitsha erupted in chaos on Wednesday afternoon after three armed men pointed guns at passing vehicles.

In CCTV images shared to social media, suspects were reportedly attempting to stop motorists.

Emergency services and Metro police responded to the scene.

Makhaza SAPS members initiated a chase after the suspects fled in the direction of Khayelitsha, and the search remains ongoing.

Safety concerns about the N2 highway continue to echo from city officials and the community.

A similar incident occurred in the area this week, when an eyewitness recalled a man jumping out of the bushes in front of a moving delivery truck.

Motorists are encouraged to remain vigilant, particularly on that stretch of the highway, and be aware of their surroundings.

Motorists are encouraged to report suspicious activity to the Public Emergency Call Centre on 021 480 7700 or 107 from a landline.
