Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane (53) dies

American actor Eric Dane has passed away at the age of 53, following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

A statement by the family said he died on Thursday afternoon, and spent his final days surrounded by friends and family.

“He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he's received.”

ALS is a progressive, fatal neurodegenerative disease that destroys motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, causing muscle weakness, atrophy and paralysis.

He was diagnosed in 2025 and has spent the last year raising awareness for the disease.

Dane was well known for his roles in the popular television series Grey’s Anatomy and, more recently, Euphoria.

He was married to actress Rebecca Gayheart, with whom he had two children.
