WC govt to provide update on containing foot-and-mouth disease

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde will join MEC for Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism Ivan Meyer on Friday to provide an update about their efforts to curb foot-and-mouth disease in the province.
Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen will receive the first shipment of one million high-potency foot-and-mouth disease vaccines at OR Tambo International Airport on Saturday.
The vaccines are being sourced from Argentina after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the country's entire herd of more than 14 million cattle will be vaccinated.

Winde and Meyer will provide an update about the provincial government's efforts to contain an outbreak of the foot-and-mouth disease in the province.
Western Cape government officials and agriculture sector role players have since responded to the outbreak with a coordinated plan, which includes quarantines and vaccinations.
Officials are monitoring five confirmed cases in the province, where thousands of cattle have already been vaccinated and quarantined in Mossel Bay, Drakenstein and Cape Town.
