The highly anticipated Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates takes place at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Sports reporter Masebe Qina anticipates an exciting game as both teams will be looking to improve following disappointing results.

Chiefs suffered back-to-back defeats to Stellenbosch in the Premiership and to Zamalek in the CAF Confederation Cup; Pirates fell 2-1 to Sundowns and were eliminated from the Nedbank Cup.

He added that many of the regulars, Evidence Makgopa and Thalente Mbatha, should see a return to the Buccaneers starting squad.

While Lebohang Maboe, Flávio da Silvais, and Brandon Peterson are expected to continue their run in the starting line-up for the Amakhosi.

“It is about more than just three points. Both coaches were saying that since the beginning of the week, the way that the players have been pushing, they have been raising their hands to say they are available to play, says a lot about the multitude of this game.”

Qina added that the Soweto Derby is also a particular highlight on the football calendar for fans.

Its rich history continues to bring sold-out crowds to the FNB Stadium.

“It doesn’t matter how bad the teams have been doing, but the supporters have been loyal to them.”
