While Vitamin C is one of the most talked-about ingredients in the skincare space, what does it really do for the epidermis?
Wellness coach Liezel van der Westhuizen explained that the challenge for most people is not whether Vitamin C works but rather choosing the right formula and using it efficiently to achieve results.
She recently gained some insight from Nip + Fab Managing Director Michael Hume after testing out its Vitamin C range.
Hume explained that Vitamin C is a fan-favourite because it does a little bit of everything.
"Vitamin C has become so popular because it's such a well-studied antioxidant. It means it helps fight free radicals, pollution, UV exposure, and everyday environmental stress. It also improves dull skin and even skin tone, and early signs of ageing,” he said.

Applying Vitamin C is known for supporting brighter-looking skin, improving the appearance of dark spots, and helping defend against premature ageing caused by environmental stressors.
Hume emphasised the importance of using stabilised forms of vitamin C, which are less prone to degradation from heat, light, and water.
He explained that their 15% Vitamin C fixed concentrate is one of their best-selling products and contains additional ingredients like Vitamin E and nicotinamide to support hydration and skin tone.
He cautioned those with sensitive skin or medical skin conditions to exercise caution when shopping for Vitamin C products.
He also reminded users about the importance of finishing their skincare routine with sunscreen.
"Vitamin C does not replace sunscreen. It will improve overall appearance, not erase every single line or every mark or every skin concern on its own, but it will work in combination with your skincare products and your skincare concerns."
