Retired Ekurhuleni metro police chief Revo Spies has won an arbitration case over his ‘unfair suspension’ from the department.
This was revealed at the Madlanga commission of inquiry on Friday.
Spies was suspended on allegations he acted without authorisation when he extended the contract of Syntell a tech company which administers traffic fines for the metro.
The arbitration ruling found this was untrue as the extension was granted by the city manager.
Spies previously testified at the commission that he was pushed out of the metro police department for trying to expose corruption.
Evidence leader Matthew Chaskalson said “the arbitrator makes an extraordinary far-reaching finding – he says I am not satisfied the respondent ever believed there was ever a prima facie case of misconduct against the applicant, either regarding his alleged appointment of Syntell or regarding the extension of the Syntell contract.”
