Britney Spears arrested for drunk driving

Popstar Britney Spears was arrested in California on Thursday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to a statement by the California Highway Patrol, a black BMW was 'driving erratically at a high rate of speed'. 

She was stopped by officers at around 9.30 pm and booked shortly after 3 am on Thursday before being released.

Spears was the only occupant in the car and was 'showing signs of impairment'.

She underwent a field sobriety test and was subsequently arrested.
