Four people have died after a fire destroyed three structures in Delft.

The city's Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters were dispatched to the scene on the corner of Main and Sandelhout Road in Delft South at around 3am.

A fruit and vegetables stall, a gym and a gas cylinder outlet were gutted in the fire.

Twenty-four gas cylinders were removed from the property, away from the hot zone.

City Fire's Jermaine Carelse said firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze by 7 am, and the cause of the blaze is unknown.

"Sadly, the bodies of four adult males were found with fatal burn wounds inside the makeshift gym. The South African Police Service will investigate the cause of this incident."
