The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) hopes MP Vincent Smith’s sentencing will encourage the National Prosecuting Authority to go after other politicians implicated at the Zondo Commission.

The former portfolio committee member of Parliament for the ANC pled guilty to fraud and corruption charges linked to the Bosasa scandal.

He was sentenced to 12 years; seven years in jail, with five years suspended.

CEO Wayne Duvenage said justice was long overdue.

“He was in a senior position chairing the committee on correctional services, and he had influence and power to soften the inquiries and receive direct gratification for that. That is a crime, a serious crime.

“Now the big question is, others like Gwede Mantashe, Nomvula Mokonyane, also have received notifications from the same company, Bosasa, and what is going to happen with them?

“The information is there, you can’t have excuses… And I am afraid that we need to see these matters scrutinised in court.”
