While fixing the water crisis is the DA’s number one pledge, job creation also features prominently on the list.
One of Helen Zille’s ambitions for the City of Johannesburg is to return the city to its former glory.
She said this involves turning Johannesburg back into the economic powerhouse she believes it once was and reasserting its economic dominance on the international stage.
Zille said the first step towards this is addressing the soaring unemployment levels in the City of Gold.
“That brings me to our third pledge, which is to attract at least 200,000 news jobs to Joburg. With a capable government and reliable basic services, out city will once again become the economic powerhouse of South Africa.”
Although the DA has had its own stints in governing Johannesburg over the past decade, it has placed the blame for the collapse of the city on the African National Congress (ANC) - Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) coalition.
