Madlanga Commission denies Carrim's request to testify privately

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has denied the request by controversial businessman Suleiman Carrim to testify behind closed doors.
Carrim made an application to testify in-camera last Friday, saying he had received anonymous death threats directed to him, his family and business.
The application was opposed by the evidence leaders, who offered arrim protection, should he require it.

Carrim has been implicated by previous witnesses of meddling in confidential police business and receiving kickbacks from the irregular R360 million South African Police Service (SAPS) tender that suspected crime boss Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala scored.
The commission’s chairperson, Mbuyiseli Madlanga, ruled on Monday: “I accordingly make the following order, the relief sought in prayers two and three of the applicant’s notice of motion, dated February 2026 is refused. The reasons will be handed out hopefully after the tea adjournment.”
