Four out of the eight pupils involved in a car crash in Dawn Park, in the City of Ekurhuleni, on Tuesday have been hospitalised when a minibus taxi that they were travelling in was hit by a bakkie.

Ekurhuleni metro police said during peak traffic on Tuesday morning, the scholar transport was on its way from Leondale to Katlehong Technical College when the crash happened.

“It is alleged that the incident happened while there were traffic controllers directing traffic on the intersection of R544 and Heidelberg Road.”

The bakkie hit the side of the scholar transport, injuring all eight learners who have been taken to various hospitals.

One of the occupants from the bakkie has been admitted to hospital.

The driver of the scholar transport was unscathed.
