Raghunath’s bold goat cheese soufflé didn’t make the cut, ending his journey on the hit cooking show.

Durban chef Suhael Raghunath exits MasterChef SA after daring soufflé

It was back home to Durban for home cook Suhael Raghunath on Sunday night as his run on MasterChef South Africa came to an end.

Despite wowing viewers with his precision, creativity, and fearless technique, Suhael's daring soufflé fell short with the judges.

Earlier, Suhael had taken risks with an onion 'steak' and the deconstructed soup challenge, showing he wasn’t afraid to push boundaries.

"I've always had a passion for cooking. I always wanted to improve and put my own spin on things."

Despite his elimination, he was noted for having strong knife skills, which he admits has become something of a party trick.

"I can look you dead in the eye and still do it. It's a fantastic skill to have."

The soufflé was a first (and, as it turns out, a last) for Suhael, but he says he decided to go big under pressure.

"It just came to my head in, like, five seconds. The weird thing is, it rose. I'm just a bit dumbfounded! It's just not what the judges are looking for on that day."

Looking back, Suhael says he can't help but be disappointed that he didn't make it further in the competition.

“I had so much more skill to put out there!"
